The road leading to Fox Glacier was closed from the overnight rain so we didn't get to go and have a close-up look and our hopes were fading that our hike on Franz Josef would go ahead, but by 3pm and with the weather now sunny, enough of the water had flowed off the glacier that is was safe to go up.
